The business was formed from humble beginnings in 1978 by brothers Ashley & Neville Gill.
Ashley, Neville & Dominic are time served joiners working in and around West Cumbria. Over the 40 years Gill Brothers have been trading, we have won numerous awards. The most recent being the 2017 LABC building excellence awards at the Hilton Newcastle. Gill Brothers have also won five Whitehaven Heritage awards during the ten years the awards were running.
Over the years we have purposely avoided letting the business grow too big, this has allowed us to provide the customer with that personal touch which we are very proud of. Listening to the requirements of the customer, providing advice to the customer if they need it, carrying out the project on time and to budget, in a safe and efficient manner with the least disruption to the property and the clients family life. We have a team of well-mannered, quality tradesman who are trained and committed to achieving the highest standards in workmanship and have the up most respect for the most important person "The Client".
Along with our own dedicated in-house operatives, we have a long list of subcontactors within the building trade that we can draft in to carry out any specialist trades. This enables us to take responsibility for the whole contract from start to finish. Over the last 40 years we have been very much at the forefront in the restoration of many Grade Two and conservation area houses and shops including St Nicholas Church in Whitehaven town centre. Our last major project in this area was what is more commonly known as the “Old Pram Shop” in Whitehaven Market Place. We purchased this property from the owner who had allowed it to deteriorate such that it was about to be demolished due to its many structural defects. However with our specialist knowledge and experience and the benefit of a 1904 dated photograph we were able to restore this prominent town centre building to its former Georgian glory. The “Old Pram Shop” is just one of the many projects we have undertaken which include those for our own lettings portfolio and others for commercial and residential clients. We are passionate about our work and we find it very rewarding. We feel that it is our way of putting something back into the town where we were born and are duly proud. Many thanks for reading this and we look forward to the possibility of working with you in the future.
